Mamou-licious

J and I just came from a wonderful dinner at Mamou.

It is rare for J and I go home together after work. Fortunately, J was able to get-off early today and in celebration of this "event", we decided to eat-out. J wanted to have dinner at Johnny Rocket's, Eastwood but the traffic was so bad in EDSA that we just decided to go to nearby Serendra. We were racking our brains on where to dine, J was craving for steak and I did not want to try out new restaurants. Finally, we decided to dine at the restaurant that consistently serves great steaks and comfort food -- Mamou.

Thank God, it was not humid because we dined al fresco (the restaurant was full and we did not make any reservations). The ambiance was still nice, we still had the comfort of privacy and intimacy. The sound of the splashing water in the pool made the atmosphere relaxing and laid-back.

As always, our Mamou dinner was a winner. The food was superb - the steak was succulent, the baked mashed potato and corn pudding was over-the-top delicious and the Alugbati, Kamote Talbos Salad was wonderfully new to our palate. The service was efficient and attentive, and Malou, the chef and owner, was gracious enough to talk to the diners, which for me made our dining experience even greater.

House bread with butter
Alugbati, Kamote Talbos Salad - Alugbati and Sweet Kamote Tops with french vinaigrette, salted egg, blue cheese, onions, orange, kamote and saba. A very Pinoy Salad with world-class taste.I like the the subtle yet delicious flavor of the dressing, it made eating these much greens a breeze.
Sides: Baked Mashed Potato and Corn Pudding. I can't get enough of these two. They make a perfect pair to the steak. I want to learn how to make them.
Steak, Single - USDA prime angus beef slathered with its own juicy fat. S-A-R-A-P. It is delicious as it is, no steak sauce please. I do not remember how they serve their steak before but the messy splatter on our plate was kind of distracting. Oh well.
For dessert:

We went to Miss Desserts to add something sweet in our palate. It was our first time there and the staff was helpful in guiding us on what to order. We decided to order the Belgian Choco Chips cheesecake since J loves his cheesecake and I love chocolate. The cheesecake was cute, as in, small and the taste was just OK. I find it too pricey for its size and taste or maybe I was just too full to appreciate it. But I'll definitely come back to give it another try, and maybe i'll write a separate blog entry about it.
